Vintage 50s Copper and Enamel Bracelet by Jerry Fels

Vintage 50s Copper and Enamel Bracelet by Jerry Fels

SUPERB vintage 1950s handmade copper enamel sculptural modernist hinged bangle bracelet designed by Jerry Fels for his company Matisse Renoir from Los Angeles, California. Named "Scultura" by the designer, and one of the most flamboyantly mid-century modernist designs by this firm, and one of my personal favorites! Jerry Fels was a veteran of the second World War, and he came back to the US with a love of everything French, and thus the names of his companies, Renoir for the all copper jewelry, and Matisse for the copper enamel. (He also had a short-lived line of sterling silver jewelry named Sauteur.) Matisse Renoir was in business from the late 1940s to the early 1960s, after which Fels went on to design sculpture and art for the home using the business name Jere, and he has become perhaps more famous for his latter endeavors than for the earlier jewelry designs.  This bracelet measures 1-3/4" wide at top with inside circumference (wearable) of 7-1/2", and weighs a hefty 85.5 grams total. Excellent vintage condition with fine light wear and some spots of tarnish as shown
